I was recently invited to bring greater awareness to when I feel in alignment with the Divine, and what circumstances contribute to a feeling of separation. I love this inquiry so much, I want to share it with you.
When in your life do you feel most aligned with Divine Love?
When do you feel the most closed off or separated from the Divine, or a higher order?
Stillness and silence always increase my alignment, especially when I sit outside early in the morning as the natural world awakens. In these moments I feel whispers of knowing; I feel apart of something so much bigger than my body; I feel attuned to the perpetual abundance of nature.
When I observe a fruiting tree, I am amazed by its generosity. There is enough for me to eat with juice dripping down my chin, there is enough for me to make into jam, enough for the birds, for the deer, and even enough to be left to decompose and nourish the organisms in the soil beyond my sight.
When I remember that I am part of nature, not separate from it, I feel a natural welling up of belonging. This belonging translates into gratitude and the heartfelt desire to engage in a reciprocal relationship with all beings (human, plant, animal, spiritual).
Conversely, attachment almost always leaves me feeling disconnected. Rejecting and latching on, though opposing, are both motivated by fear and lack. They feed an illusion of separateness and scarcity.
I believe that when we bring awareness to what is aligned in our lives, and what is not, we can begin to consciously choose. Choice invites inspiration and empowerment. It is so different than functioning out of unconscious patterns or triggers.
What small choice can you make today to align more with the abundance which continually flows from Source? Please share, if you’re inspired!
I will leave you with a poem which came to me in the still silence of a new day.
GIFTS OF MORNING The rooster crows as I walk the short distance up to the hill to scatter grain for his flock. I wish you could hear what I hear. The world is so alive; trilling, rustling, vibrating. I greet my neighbors along the way, 'Good morning, rabbit' 'How's the grazing, mama doe?' The sun floods my eyes with light and my body with warmth. Smiling, my face tilts upward. I let the weight lift off my heart like the mist rising from the damp meadow. The gifts of morning are freely given.
Breaha, beautifully written ... as always.
Oddly enough, I experience my deepest connection with nature when surfing in the ocean. When people ask me what surfing is like, I reply ...
Imagine a storm thousands of miles away in the south or north Pacific Ocean where the intense winds infuse energy into the water, creating a "swell" that travels all the way to the West Coast. Note that the water itself is not moving eastward, just the energy travels.
When those swells reach the shallow water along the coast and "break" as waves on a beach, that energy is released as sound (the "crashing wave") and light. Now, to "catch a wave" you must paddle your surfboard to "catch up" with it. And, the very moment you catch it and start to glide down the face of the wave, you can feel a surge of energy throughout your body ... it's like "the hand of God" grabs you and pushes you forward. It's truly magical, like nothing else I have ever experienced. That's why, after 60 years of surfing, I'm still doing it.
I do a similar silence on my back deck in the mornings and love watching the nature wake up. The trees and the sounds the leaves make when the wind blows through them. The happy chatter or the squirrels and the birds at my neighbors bird feeder. A silent bunny hopping by. My cat usually joins with me in silence as we watch the quiet beauty of nature around us.
